Pension and health consulting firm Lane, Clark and Peacock (LCP) said there was a sharp increase in "economic inactivity". That is, working adults who are not working or looking for a job.
The number has increased by 516,000 since the coronavirus outbreak. And early retirement doesn't seem to explain it.
The LCP said the total number of long-term cases rose by 353,000.
That means there are now nearly 2.5 million working adults with long-term illnesses. Official data from the Labor Force Survey revealed
The report comes at a time of growing debate about the rise in so-called economic inactivity. which has a population of 8.9 million and what fuels it?
Ministers are concerned that this could slow down economic growth. Prime Minister Jeremy Hunt has instituted a policy review to reduce inactivity. and may be announced in the budget on March 15.
